His experience and skills are expected to bolster UNC Asheville’s performance as they prepare for the new season.

Asheville, NC – The UNC Asheville men’s basketball team has announced the addition of David Hermes, a 6’10” hybrid forward/center, to their roster for the 2025-26 season. Hermes transfers to UNC Asheville from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) after one season with the Roadrunners.

During his time at UTSA, Hermes participated in 26 games, starting in 18 of them. He averaged approximately 12 minutes of playtime per game, contributing an average of 1.9 points and 1.8 rebounds per game to the team’s performance. Throughout the season, he recorded a total of 47 rebounds, 10 assists, eight blocks, and seven steals. Notably, his best performance came against Southwestern Adventist University, where he scored a game-high of 11 points.

Before joining UTSA, Hermes spent two productive years at Indian Hills Community College in Iowa. At Indian Hills, he played a key role in leading the team to a 29-6 record, securing both the NJCAA D1 Region XI and North Central District Championships. The Warriors made a memorable run to the Final Four during the 2023-24 NJCAA DI Men’s Basketball Championship. In his final season at Indian Hills, Hermes averaged 6.1 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, while showcasing his shooting skills with 47.6% from the field and 39.3% from three-point range.

In addition to his college career, Hermes represented the Syrian National Team as a power forward during the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian Qualifiers, where he averaged 3.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assists. He also participated in the 2023 FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament with the Syrian squad. Hermes broadened his international experience by playing for Ciudad de Huelva Baloncesto in the Spanish Liga EBA in 2022.

Hermes’ journey in basketball began at Central Pointe Christian Academy in Kissimmee, Florida, where he graduated after helping his high school team achieve a notable 30-5 record and a playoff appearance in the Sunshine Independent Athletic Association (SIAA). His performance across various teams and levels demonstrates a consistency and potential that UNC Asheville hopes to leverage in the upcoming season.

Fans looking for more insights and updates on the UNC Asheville men’s basketball program can follow the team on social media as they prepare for the upcoming season with the inclusion of Hermes and other new recruits.
